Student Board Nominations Open

NIEA is accepting nominations for the Student Member seat on the NIEA Board of Directors (two-year term, 2026–2027). This position ensures student voices are represented in NIEA's leadership and offers a meaningful opportunity to help shape the future of Native education.

Eligibility

• Be an NIEA member in good standing.
• Be a current student from any region.
• Be enrolled part-time or full-time in an accredited institution of higher education.
• Remain a student for at least two full semesters or three quarters/trimesters during the NIEA membership year, as outlined in the NIEA Constitution.
• Be able to actively participate in bi-monthly virtual Board of Directors meetings and occasional committee meetings.

Nomination Deadline

Nominations must be submitted by Friday, August 14, 2026.

Election Process

Following the close of nominations, eligible candidates will appear on the ballot for election by the NIEA membership.

Voting Date:
Friday, October 9, 2026 | 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET

Virtual Voting:
Current NIEA members will receive a secure voting link from a third-party voting platform. If you do not receive your voting link, please contact Eric Chastain or Rachel Two Bulls.

On-site Voting:
On-site voting will be available at the 57th Annual NIEA Convention & Trade Show at the Buffalo Convention Center. Voting stations will be located at Registration.

Eligibility to Vote:
Only current NIEA members in good standing are eligible to vote.
