SUPPORT FOR NATIVE STUDENT LEARNING ACTION PLANS LIKE THAT FROM THE ALASKA NATIVE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION

WHEREAS, the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) was established in 1969 for the purpose of advocating, planning, and promoting the unique and special educational needs of American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians; and

WHEREAS, NIEA as the largest national Indian organization of American Indians, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian educators, administrators, parents, and students in the United States, provides a forum to discuss and act upon issues affecting the education of Indian and Native people; and

WHEREAS, through its unique relationship with Indian nations and tribes, the federal government has established programs and resources to meet the educational needs of American Indians, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiians, residing on and off their reserved or non-reserved homelands; and

WHEREAS, the Alaska Native Education Association was established to advocate for the education of native students in K-16 schools, and

WHEREAS, the Alaska Native Education Association must strengthen its role at the state and national level, and

WHEREAS, the Alaska Native Education Association authored the Native Student learning Action plan based upon the Alaska Standards for Culturally Responsive Schools and its related guidelines, and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Alaska Native Education association requests the support of the National Indian Education Association to establish the Native Student Learning Action Plan with the K-16 schools in Alaska.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the National Indian Education Association advocates on behalf of the Alaska Native Education Association to publicly acknowledge the native Student Learning Action Plan and its resolution to Native education challenges at the state and national level.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the National Indian Education Association supports the voice and the existence of the Alaska native Education Association, in its endeavors to advocate for Native education.
