The Emerging Native Language Leaders Fellowship provides the opportunity to create connections between emerging Native Language leaders and veteran Native Language leaders as well as providing prescriptive professional development to address common challenges in Native Language revitalization work. The fellowship serves the purpose of addressing the challenge of limited professional and leadership development available to Native Language leaders that addresses their unique needs
Native Language leaders stand at the vortex of public policy advocacy, fund development, educational planning, strategic planning, budgeting, human resources management, curriculum development, cultural revitalization, archives and historical research management, grant writing and reporting, economic development, and facilities maintenance and management, to name just a few. Ideally, a Native Language leader would be able to solely focus on the development of their language; however, organizations and tribes lack the capacity to address all the needs of a Native Language program leaving the emerging leader to bear most of that weight. In addition, mainstream leadership development programs lack cultural competency that is vital to effective and authentic leadership in Native Language revitalization. But they do not need to do it alone, and we are at a time when we have leaders who have been doing this work for decades available to address this wide variety of leadership considerations. We invite you to learn more about the fellowship.
