Constitution & Bylaws

The Constitution and Bylaws of the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) guide how we operate, make decisions, and uphold our responsibilities to Native students, educators, Tribal Nations & Native Communities.

These documents outline the structure of our organization, the roles and responsibilities of leadership, and the processes that ensure transparency, accountability, and member engagement. They serve as a foundation for how NIEA advances Native education priorities and supports Tribal sovereignty through our work.

Why They Matter

NIEA’s Constitution and Bylaws are more than governance documents. They reflect our shared commitment to:

  • Supporting Native education through strong, community-informed leadership

  • Ensuring members have a voice in how the organization moves forward

  • Upholding accountability in decision-making and organizational practices

  • Maintaining clear and consistent processes across all areas of our work

For Members

As a member-driven organization, NIEA encourages all members to review and understand the Constitution and Bylaws. These documents help clarify how decisions are made, how leadership is selected, and how members can stay engaged and involved.
