First Kids 1st: The Native Children’s Policy Agenda

As part of NIEA’s strategic plan goals of partnering with other Native serving organizations, serving as the convening organization on Native education, and constructing the National narrative on Native education, NIEA has joined with three other National partners—the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), the National Indian Health Board (NIHB), and the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) on the 2017 Native Children’s Policy Agenda for First Kids 1st.

The 2017 First Kids 1st Policy Agenda sets forth a holistic vision for the healthy development of Native children that includes policy changes in health, child welfare, education, and governance. NIEA is proud to have joined our partners in developing this tool that will assist tribal leaders and policymakers in implementing a vision for vibrant, healthy communities where Native youth thrive.

NIEA wishes to thank the Kellogg Foundation for its generous support, which made this work possible. We look forward to hearing our Members thoughts on the Agenda and to partnering with tribal leaders and Native advocates to bring about the transformational changes the Agenda recommends.
