CONVENTION BOARD ELECTIONS FORM Go back to the main Convention Page Board nomincations are due July, 24, 2009. Only Until the Board Nominations are Due/Postmarked. PLASE READ Request for Absentee Ballots due Postmarked by September 23, 2009. The NIEA Board of Directors consists of 12 seats held by ten (10) General Voting Members and two (2) Student Board Members. This year, three (3) General Board Member seats and Zero (0) Student Board Member seats will become vacant. NIEA Board nomination qualifications: American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians (General Members) over 18 years old at the time of nomination are eligible to serve on the NIEA Board. NIEA General, Student, or Lifetime voting members in good standing may make nominations, be nominated, and/or be elected to the Board. Current NIEA Board Members may not nominate individuals, and persons may not nominate themselves General Board members serve a three –year term; student members serve a two-year term Board members must remain members in good standing for the duration of their three-year term of office NIEA Board nominations must be postmarked on or before July 24, 2009. Please submit all information in one electronic correspondence file to wjohnson@niea.org. Nominees must agree to the following conditions: Attendance at a workshop on election procedures, NIEA Board duties, responsibilities and expectations on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm; Eligible candidates will introduce themselves and their platforms to the membership at the Convention’s 1st General Assembly on Thursday, October 22, 2009; Newly-elected Board members will take their oath of office on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the 4th General Assembly; Attendance at a full Board meeting after the Convention adjourns. Newly elected Board members must make arrangements to stay for the meeting on Monday, October 26, 2009 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Voting On-Site: On-site elections will be conducted on Friday, October 23, 2009 between 8:00am – 5:00pm at the designated voting area. Voting by Absentee Ballot: Individuals who have paid their membership for the 2009-10 year may request absentee ballots if they are unable to attend the 2009 Convention. Absentee ballots must be requested in writing, requests can be faxed to 202-544-7293, deadline/postmarked by September 23, 2009. Telephone requests are not accepted. All absentee ballots must be returned postmarked or faxed twenty-one (21) calendar days prior to the first day of the Convention, on or before Thursday, October 22, 2009. Voting Outcome or Determinants: The process of tabulating the official vote for new officers will follow Article IV in that all votes be tabulated on site by the NIEA Elections Committee and/or their designates. The replacement officers will be determine by an allotment of most votes received per individual as voted on by the membership. Election Challenge Procedure: If there is a challenge to the election results, it must be filed with the current NIEA President or the Executive Director by 12:00noon the morning the results are announced.
